The Vote Is In!

Wasauksing Voted YES to the Land Code!

The Official Results are in- WFN votes 76% in favor of the Land Code!

At the 2016 PICA Annual General Metting, Chief Warren Tabobondung spoke briefly about the Land Code issue and the upcoming Wasauksing First Nation (WFN) community vote which was to take place in early 2017. Our understanding is that vote has now taken place with WFN voting in favour of passing the motion.

From a PICA perspective we are not yet fully aware of what impact, if any, this will have on Parry Island cottagers. That said, as your representative PICA board we will endeavor to gather more information which we can share with the membership.

According to their official website, under the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management (Framework Agreement), Wasauksing First Nation will be able to manage their own land, resources and environment according to their own land code, laws and policies.
